Gridiron Rebels on the Rise?

Football is king in the SEC, and while the Rebels have endured some tough seasons in recent years two Cotton Bowls have come home and we have sent numerous players to the NFL. Last season left a sour taste in the mouths of the Ole Miss faithful with NFL prospect Jevan Snead falling well short of his pre-season expectations.
This upcoming season, however, there is a stable of quarterbacks that may help boost our less than stellar pass offense of old. 6’5 sophomore Nathan Stanley, who took most of the snaps during the spring game, leads this group, and Raymond Cotton also has people looking, even though the freshman has battled injury to his throwing arm. Randall Mackey is a highly anticipated junior college recruit who posted pretty remarkable numbers during his time at Mississippi Community College.
When asked about making a decision about the starting job for the Rebels next season Houston Nutt said,” I’m just not ready to name a starter yet, but each player brings his own unique aspect to this game and I think we can work all three of them in very effectively”
Ole Miss students have been given an opportunity to see their Alma Mater win some tough SEC games and add hardware to their trophy cases, which in past years hasn’t happened. When asked about the team Ole Miss student, and huge football fan, John Barton said, “ I really think that the Rebels have one of the best front sevens in the SEC, and we also picked up a really solid secondary, my only concern is our ability to replace the explosiveness that McCluster brought to our offense. I still think Brandon Bolden will have a breakout year and the Rebels will finish with 9 wins.”
Regardless of who plays for us this season we know it has to be better than the 20 interceptions Snead heaved up last year, and even with the loss of Dexter McCluster the Rebels look ready to pounce on a relatively easy SEC schedule.
